Types of Construction
We offer four types of construction for all of our projects – homes, cottages, additions and renovations:
1. Conventional Building method
This is the most common method of construction that you would normally see. It is conventional framing generally using 2” x 6” walls and engineered roof truss systems – it is sometimes referred to as “stick framing”.
2. Timber Frame
Timber Framing is a centuries old craft based on the concept of creating a magnificent supporting structure using large timbers connected with mortise and tenon joinery and secured with wooden dowels. The frame is enclosed with conventional construction methods protecting it from the harsh outside elements while offering a stunning showcase inside.
3. Hybrid
-
Timber Frame in the main living areas and conventional in the other rooms of the home
In this method Timber Framing is generally used in the main living areas – great room, kitchen, dining, entry – with the bedrooms, baths etc. being completed using conventional methods. The Hybrid method is becoming increasingly popular, as it is a cost effective way of enjoying the beauty of Timber Frame in the areas of the home that are most visible and where the most time is spent.
4. Log
A log home or cottage has a very unique appeal for those who love the warmth and beauty of wood. We use Eastern White Pine logs that are kiln dried – a key factor to virtually eliminate shrinkage and twisting. This also ensures an energy efficient seal that will endure for a lifetime. Our logs are provided by one of the finest log home suppliers in North America –
Strongwood Homes
.
You have a host of options and opportunities using any of these construction methods ranging in style from rustic to contemporary. The choices for interior and exterior finishes are limitless and only constrained by the imagination.
